Muzan Alneel is an engineer, researcher, and public speaker with an interdisciplinary professional and academic background (engineering, socioeconomics, public policy). She is the managing director and a founding member of ISTinaD Center – Sudan, a research centre that works in the field of Innovation, science and technology for people-centred development. Muzan has over 10 years of engineering experience in the private sector, managing projects in FMCG, Start-Ups and relevant technical consultancy.
Since the beginning of the 2018 December revolution in Sudan, Muzan worked as a technical consultant with several Sudanese grassroot-organizations and initiatives with the aim of providing the public with technical knowledge necessary for efficient and meaningful participation in decision making around public resources and needs. She also volunteered as consultant on Industrial Policy in the Industrial Research and Consultancy Center (IRCC) – Sudan -a para governmental institution- during Sudan’s transitional period; where she contributed to the founding of the Institute of Industrial Policy Studies.
Muzan’s publication’s include ‘People-centered evaluation of industrial policy in post revolution Sudan’ (2022) a paper presented at the 10th International Conference for Appropriate Technology, which was selected among the conference’s best papers; ‘The Everyday Politics of Sudan's Tax System: Identifying Prospects for Reform (PeaceRep Report)’ (2022) a report which she co-authored, and ‘Why “it hasn’t fallen yet”?: Lessons from the Sudanese revolution’ a chapter in the book The Arab uprising, a decade of struggle published by TNI.
Muzan’s research and writing covers the issues of industrial and economic policies, sustainable development and political dynamics in Sudan. She had also been a guest speaker on several local, regional and international platforms. She holds a Masters of Engineering in Technical Management and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering.
