Civil society takes IPA concerns to EC

Myanmar Times - Over 500 Myanmar civil society organisations have voiced “deep concerns” about a prospective EU-Myanmar investment protection agreement (IPA).

In a letter to the European Commission, the CSOs question whether such an agreement was in the interests of Myanmar and criticised the EC for a lack of transparency and its consultation approach.

The letter, published on January 14, was drafted by 518 organisations from the Myanmar Alliance on Transparency and Accountability (MATA), 53 organisations from Lands in Our Hand network and other civil society groups. The groups addressed the letter to EU commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmström in response to a questionnaire Myanmar civil society groups received from European consultancy firm Development Solutions.
